Taranaki Women travelled to Wanganui to play Wairarapa in the second game of the Mike Shrimpton Trophy on 25th November 2018.
Taranaki won the toss & elected to bowl first after rain delayed the start by 50 minutes.
Taranaki struck early with a sharp piece of fielding by Kate Baxter to execute a runout to have Wairarapa 7-1. A solid second wicket partnership of 86 was broken by Shannen Elliot. Wairarapa continued to lose wickets regularly however some valuable runs by the lower order batswomen saw them through to 183-9 after their 40 overs. The innings was interrupted a few times for rain.
Best of the Taranaki bowlers were Kate Baxter 3-22, with Kelsey Husband, Lucy Mitchell, Taila Hurley & Shannen Elliott all taking 1 wicket each. Natalie Dodd also had a very good debut keeping.
Taranaki were to commence their innings however the rain set in & at 4pm both captains agreed to abandon the game.
A disappointing end to an important game for Taranaki as we’ve experienced 2 rain off’s. With one game to go, in January v Manawatu, we still have a chance to win the competition but will need other results to go our way.
