Semi finalists have been found for the Revital Fertilisers Premier two day competition.
NPOB have qualified top after a convincing win over Inglewood, the two sides went into the final round locked at the top of the table with the winner taking the all important top seed in to the finals. NPOB completed an 8 wicket outright win having already gained the 1st innings points on day one. The loss had greater implications on Inglewood as they fell to 3rd spot and losing the opportunity to host a semi final with NPMU picking up maximum points defeating Stratford.
NPMU’s win was built around a massive first innings total of 400 for 9 with Ben Hitchcock top scoring with 120, for Stratford, the scenario was a simple one, score 200 in their first innings and secure a semi final berth, they commenced day 2 on 58 for 2 but soon succumbed to the left arm spin of Daniel Bernet as they was dismissed for 111 with Bernet picking up 8 for 28. Things did not improve in the 2nd innings with Stratford bowled out for 107 and it was Bernet again doing the damage with another 6 wickets.
With Stratfords performance it gave Woodleigh a golden opportunity to come from no where and steal the final semi final spot, requiring the maximum points Woodleigh did all they could on day one, scoring 290 for 4 declared and then dismissing FDMC for 142. Day 2 started with FDMC following on but they were not going to go cheaply with FDMC putting in their best days cricket of the season, the opening pair of Finbar Moriarty (55) and Matt Allen (37) combined for a 95 run opening stand, Jesse Vertongen took over with a well compiled 96 before Shay Smith Luond finished the innings off with a hard hit 49 off 24 balls, FDMC finally dismissed for 324 and a lead of 175. It was then the turn of the FDMC bowlers as they dismissed Woodleigh for 87 inside 25 overs.
Hawera defeated NPBHS on the first innings in the other game which ended up having no bearing on the semi final spots.
Semi Finals are scheduled for Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th March:
