TOP 4 BREAKING AWAY
Half way through the Revital Fertiliser One Day competition and the top 4 have a break on the rest of the field. Defending champs and favourites to go back to back New Plymouth Marist United sit a top with a four point lead over New Plymouth Old Boys, Inglewood and Woodleigh. Those 3 teams are a further six points ahead of the school teams with Hawera and Stratford reeling at the bottom of the table.
This weeks match of the round will see two top four teams going head to head when Woodleigh host NPOB at Sutherlands Park. This will be Woodleigh’s third straight week playing a top 4 side having been beaten by NPMU and then scored a morale boosting win over Inglewood last week.
The top order for Woodleigh is starting to find some form in particular wicket keeper Phil Barraclough, openers Jesse Vertongen and Shaun Sullivan were both amongst the runs last weekend but its been Barraclough who has led the way, he has only been dismissed once so far this season is coming off a 74 not out last weekend. They will be put under pressure by the NPOB bowling unit especially leading wicket taker Ross Bryans with the new ball.
NPOB batsman will look to redeem themselves after a disappointing effort last week, they will be faced by a rejuvenated Taylor Williams as he looks to earn a recall to the Taranaki side. Bryans is leading the run tally for the NPOB batsman albeit with only 65 runs so if NPOB are to be competitive their batsman will need to look to score big.
NPOB have been forced to make a few changes with stalwart Jamie Watkins away coaching the CD Hinds, and Tem Hodson missing, they will be replaced by the returning Chad Quinney and one other to be decided after training. Woodleigh on the other hand will field the same team as last weekend which may just give them the upperhand in this battle
The other games will see NPMU prove too strong for Hawera and cement their semi final spot.
NPBHS host Stratford and FDMC go up against Inglewood
Both school teams scored their first wins of the season last week and will look to build on that momentum. If NPBHS win they will keep their slim semi final hopes alive.
Inglewood should prove too strong for FDMC which will see them solidify their semi final spot.
All games kick off at 11am and live scoring can be found on TCA’s website.
Revital Fertilisers Taranaki were meant to kick off their season on Sunday with a pre season game at Western Park against Waikato Valley but unfortunately Waikato Valley couldn't field a team due to unavoidable circumstances.
