HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE AT WESTERN
This week sees the top four all do battle against each other in what looks to be a preview of the semi finals.
In the match of the round the defending champions New Plymouth Marist United head to Western Park to take on top of the table New Plymouth Old Boys.
With both teams at full strength this has all the ingredients of a heavyweight clash.
NPOB have had two bonus points wins so far but they have come against the two school teams, on the other hand NPMU picked up a bonus point win in round one against Stratford and then was too good against Woodleigh last week.
Its an intriguing game, the match will be played at Western Park on grass with NPOB having played on it last week where NPMU will face the grass for the first time this season. Having played Woodleigh last week NPMU could be a little more match hardened than NPOB who havent had to work too hard in the first two rounds.
For NPOB to win their bowlers will have to contain the top order of the NPMU side, each game they have set a solid platform for their power hitters to take advantage of. Ross Bryans looks to be a decent signing with both bat and ball for NPOB.
The batsman hold the key for NPMU to win, with their first look at a grass wicket they will look for the experience duo of Dean Robinson and Ryan Fleming to lay a platform at the start of the innings. It may prove difficult for the power hitters in the middle order to be as affective as they have been on artificial.
All in all this match looks to be going down to the wire and with NPOB not being put under pressure at all this season could see their downfall this week.
In the other top of the table clash, Inglewood play host to Woodleigh, Inglewood like NPOB are coming off two bonus points wins against Hawera and NPBHS. Woodleigh faced defeat last week at the hands of NPMU and will be desperate for the points to stay in contention for the semi finals.
Stratford should pick up their first win of the season against a struggling FDMC side though FDMC welcome back former student Quin Sorenson who will bolster the top order.
NPBHS travel to Hawera with both teams looking for their first victory of the season.
The losers of these two games can almost kiss their one day final aspirations good bye and start concentrating on the two day competition.
Games kick off at 11am with live scoring on TCA’s website.
