PREMIER ONE DAY FINAL TOO CLOSE TO CALL

The first trophy of the Premier grade season will be played for this Sunday with the Revital Fertilisers One Day final scheduled to start at 11am at Pukekura Park.

Both New Plymouth Marist United and New Plymouth Old Boys will be desperate to get their hands on the silverware with the winners also getting the opportunity to represent Taranaki in the CD Club Champs later in the season.

NPMU will go in to the final a slight favourites having beaten NPOB in round robin play and going through the round robin phase unbeaten.

NPMU will be looking to get runs on the board with three of their batsman in the top five run scorers for the competition, leading the way is Josh Barrett with 170 runs at an average of 56 closely followed by Dean Robinson in second place and rounding out the top five is Jarred Cunningham. It should be a good battle as NPOB’s overseas Ross Bryans leads the wicket takers with 15 wickets at an impressive 7.07 each.

On the other side NPOB have struggled for runs with their leading run scorer being Bryans with only 71 runs, they will be hoping for a much improved effort as their top order is stacked with past or present rep players. For a team struggling for runs they have to go up against one of the better bowling units in Taranaki, Ryan Watson will lead the charge with the new ball along with Josh Barrett and Robson Chapman as the other seamers, the revelation once again has been Daniel Bernet who continues to confuse batsman with his left arm spinners, backing him up will be Michael Blanks and Jarred Cunningham.

If form is anthing to go by then NPMU should prove too strong!!
